3 Essential Rules for Purchasing a Horse Blanket

Winter is quickly creeping in, which means you need to ensure your horse is kept warm and dry while enjoying a day out in the pasture. However, you want to ensure you get the best blanket for your bucks. So before starting your shopping spree, keep the following things in mind when purchasing a horse blanket:

1. Lining

As some horse are more prone to blanket rubs, it’s important to choose a soft nylon lining for your horse blanket. However, if you’re looking for something that’s breathable, a netted fabric is the way to go.

2. Insulation

The higher the weight of the blanket, the warmer it’ll be. Depending on where in the country you’re situated and the weather conditions you experience. They’re available in lightweight, medium weight, and heavyweight – depending on the weather temperatures.

3. Outer covering

Check to see if the outer coverage is waterproof, windproof, and water-resistant. There should also be no seam along the spine of the horse blanket, which can cause seepage, getting your horse wet and making the whole point of using a horse blanket during rainy season pointless.

Lastly, how to clean a horse blanket:

Using a mild detergent will work just fine. If you have a large enough washing machine, it makes life easier. However, if not, consider taking it to the laundromat when no one’s looking. You could also hand-wash the horse blanket by hanging it up and hosing it down, but that would take a little bit more time than pressing a button.
