Taking Care of Pets During Lockdown

The lockdown was an adjustment for everyone, including our furry family members. Dogs are generally creatures of habit. They adapt to our routines; when we wake up, the times and days that we go to work, when feeding time is, etc. Around the globe, there were some home pets that thoroughly enjoyed the extra time they had with us. It doesn’t change the fact that we have disrupted their routines, which can be very stressful for them. So, we need to give our furbabies a little more TLC than usual.

Tips for Dog Care

Dogs exhibit different signs of stress, and it’s important to identify them before they get sick or start taking it out on your furniture and other belongings.

Regular trips to the vet

If your pup is exhibiting strange behaviour and signs of stress, you’ll need to take them to the vet to get them checked out. The vet will be able to provide advice on how to keep them calm, and might even prescribe medication to ensure they stay healthy and happy. For these trips, you’ll want to ensure that the car ride doesn’t cause more stress. Get a seat cover for your dog to ensure they are comfortable, and (bonus!) your backseat stays clean!

Washing your dog

Even if you’re cooped up inside for the majority of the time, your pooch will always benefit from a good wash with a quality dog shampoo. You should do this once every few weeks, depending on how active they are, or as necessary.

Chew toys

There are some breeds that enjoy chewing and playing more than others, but you should have at least one toy in the house that your dog can claim as their own. It will keep them entertained while you’re busy or out of the house, keeping them away from chewing other things that they aren’t supposed to.
