What to Wear for Horse Riding

What you wear during horseback riding has far more to it than just looking stylish. Your outfit and accessories of choice have a direct effect on how safely and effectively you ride. On the plus side, equestrian fashion and function go hand in hand.

The three most important elements of your horse-riding outfit include:

Helmet

The most important element of any rider’s outfit is the helmet! Although wearing a cowboy hat might make you feel cool, ensuring your safety is way more important than impressing other riders. When purchasing a helmet, you need to make sure that it is safety approved.

We recommend the EN138 safety-approved harness helmet, perfect for beginner and experienced riders. This helmet is made of breathable material equipped with rear air vents for maximum comfort.

Boots

The most essential item in your horse-riding wardrobe, besides the helmet, is your footwear. You should opt for boots with a heel between 3cm and 3,5 cm. The recommended material is leather due to its durability, and the boot must not have any laces.

The heel length of the boot is essential for preventing your leg from slipping between the stirrups. If this were to happen and you fall, you face would be in danger of being dragged wherever the horse is heading, which could result in fatal injuries.

Pants

Another important piece of your outfit is a pair of horseback riding trousers, such as breaches or jodhpurs. These pants resemble thick tights or leggings but are composed of a sturdier material. The form-fitted design keeps them from being twisted or trapped in the saddle while riding, improving your safety.

How to Choose Horse Riding Pants

When choosing the perfect pair of riding pants there are a few boxes to check before making your purchase, including:

  • Fit Them First: It’s important to remember to always try on any riding pants before purchasing to ensure they fit comfortably.
  • Lookout for Chafing: Areas where chafing can happen include the knee and ankle area. Check the texture of this area before buying.
  • Comfort is Key: You’ll be spending plenty of time in your riding pants, so make them as comfy as possible so you can enjoy the ride.
